HTML5 with web video formats for raster video and SVG for vector graphics is the right way to do it. HTML5 is fully supported on all good browsers now. They support HTML5, CSS3, SVG, and web video and audio formats. All you need.

Why would you even compare it to java? Their intended uses are wildly different. Also adobe stopped supporting mobile entirely (for good reason), but you can still use the last version for android without any issues.

However, it not only has significant usage in desktop application, but features a primarily visual workflow that appeals to artists and animators. Apples to oranges, etc.

Then some dick uses a tag that only 1/5 browsers support and 4/5 are complaining while the creator is pissed of because he is sure it is working perfectly. Flash is simply good enough for now and probably will be for some time.
