File: Inspirational Clock v0.3.swf-(8.28 MB, 200x350, Loop)
[_] v0.3 is here SadGuy !LsJere0nrU 04/29/16(Fri)09:30:22 No.3071506

  Changelog:
  * V0.3
  * Fixed stutter on opening, should now be pretty smooth
  * Improved and added more phrases
  * Changed text handler, it will now show each phrase at least once, before showing it again
  * Added a special greeting in preloader to anon No.3063204
  * Made top text more visible
  * Increased framerate to 60fps, this removed the stuttering to a certain degree on my
near-toaster laptop and completly removed it on my main computer
  * NOTE: if you still think it stutters too much, hit D and you can adjust the slider. but beware:
this is very glitchy, therefore try clicking not dragging.
  * Removed the yellow marker
  * Made the flash smaller and more neat
  * added an alternative metal track in the context menu
  * Cleared up some spaghetti coding
  * You can now also view this in fullscreen without problems, but do note the text will have a
dark overlay in a split second. unfortunatly I was unable to remove this.

It's been a while I know, but I want your feedback. That's why I wait with publishing it untill I
  have proper time to respond.
  Feedback encouraged

  less pretentious bullshit please
I mean this is what I call inspirational
  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bavZbQHbuOk
or if you actually meant it to be pretentious just rename it to pretentious clock

>> [_] Anonymous 04/29/16(Fri)10:10:33 No.3071519

I'd adjust the design a bit.
First of all, the font. It's not really a font you'd use for a clock display.
Secondly, the colour choice. That grey in the middle is very light. Try to go for a desaturated
colour instead. Speaking of saturation, that very saturated red just does not work as a
background colour, especially black on red simply does not work.

Combined with the music, I'd go for somewhat of a steampunk look. Make the clock itself an
interesting mechanical dial, and the numbers embossed into brass wheels.

nice ideas, I'm aware that the color scheme sucks, but I'm no designer. Thank you for the tips,
will try to add it in the next version.
also; do you have any idea which font to use?

  This.

I'm bad at font choices, but I'd go for a fixed-width one, or at least a sans-serif font. Try to
avoid fonts with too much "fancy" stuff in terms of typography - they clash with the otherwise
quite simple design you have so far.

Liberation Sans Mono might fit, or one of the DejaVu family, e.g. DejaVu Sans Mono or Droid Sans
Mono. Of course, if you have actually well-designed fixed-width fonts available to you, use those
  instead of my freetard choices.

  thanks a bunch
  >>3071517
Well, to be honest I'm not really sure myself. my vocabluary isn't really that wide, but it is
probably in the middleground of pretentious and inspirational.

Another thing - currently, the numerals move with linear speed. In other words, they're either
stopped, or they move at a velocity that is constant. You can make it look nicer if you make the
velocity a function of time, i.e. have them first accelerate, then decelerate.

Let's say you want to spend t_max milliseconds moving the numeral and at any point in time, t is
the time the numeral has been moving; you'd then have to get a function for the velocity of its
movement from t which forms some curve where f(0) is 0 and f(t_max) is 0, but f(t_max/2) is your
maximum desired velocity. For a parabolic curve, you can take an exponent, and then you just need
to adjust the function to suit your direction of the curve. If this sounds a bit complicated, dig
out your old mathematics books from high-school, and your TI calculator if you have one. Wolfram
  Alpha can help too: http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=y+%3D+x+-+x%5E2

  >>3071533
actually nevermind me, it's probably better to derive the velocity from the distance travelled
rather than the time, since you want to stop at a certain point.

  In the formula
  y = -4*(x-0.5)^2 + 1
x would be amount_traveled/total_length, and the resulting y would be the factor to multiply your
maximum velocity by (goes from 0 at x=0 to 1 at x=0.5 to 0 at x=1)

I looked over the graph, which is nice btw.
  However i need a graph which accelerates to x = 25, then slows down to x = 50

>> [_] Anonymous 04/29/16(Fri)12:38:39 No.3071581

  >>3071580
  then divide x by 50.
  y = -4*((x/50)-0.5)^2 + 1

The clock seems to be 1 second behind... Not sure if this is just me or a bug...

Found a simpler formula which was easier to integrate in my code:
  f(x) = -(x-1)^2*50+50
But thanks anyway, looks much better now because of you

Yeah, it will always lag about 0.5 sec behind. I'll fix that. shit i totally forgot about that

I started looking over fonts, and i must say that I really like the DejaVu Sans Mono, just
because of the number zero. It looks great

>> [_] Anonymous 04/29/16(Fri)15:57:15 No.3071661

The way the numbers move is very satisfying, especially when a bunch move at once.

Then you should look forward to v0.4
  It's even more smooth now
