We are not likely to return any time soon in our current form. All site and user data has been destroyed. So long, and thanks for all the fish. Just noticed. This sucks big time. What.CD had grown to be ten times better than what oink ever was though, they had everything. Dunno what the fuck I'm going to do now, I like to have everything in MP3 format... Marked for deletion (old). >> [_] Anon 3177825 From a news article published 6 hours ago: >What.cd, an invite-only music torrent website first launched in 2007, has been shut down after a raid by French authorities. The private tracker offered free (and often illegal) access to a massive, deeply thorough collection of music and was popular among audiophiles for its strict rules around quality and file formats. The site was created after the shutdown of another well-known torrent website, Oink, which operated between 2004 and 2007. Though its primary focus was music sharing, What.cd also permitted torrents of computer software, ebooks, and other content. http://www.theverge.com/2016/11/17/13669 832/what-cd-music-torrent-website-shut-do wn >> [_] Anon 3177831 Sauce on song :3 >> [_] Anon 3177833 >># Noriko Matsueda, Takahito Eguchi (FFX-2) - Eternity ~Memory of Lightwaves~ visuals are FFX >> [_] Anon 3177838 So is this really it. Wouldn't it be better to not have them if they can get taken down like kat managed to do? Also another idea would be to have a torrent file of an html page or something that is: -updatable via some sort of authorization -contains a searchable list of magnet links for torrents -has the metadata (comments, file information, ect.) for each torrent as well I don't know if torrent is the right word, but something like this would be ideal since it can't get taken down as easily. >> [_] Anon 3177958 >># Well, all the ones I know are pretty much gone, you're right. I remember Oink, but never used what.cd >> [_] Anon 3177963 If you have a few million dollars, you can buy Sealand and host it there. Just cite the grandfather clause and keep some guns, to keep the English out. >> [_] Anon 3177965 >># you just described dc++ >> [_] Anon 3177966 oh, fuckin hell. RIP >> [_] Anon 3177967 All of you people talking about solutions to torrenting, stop, it was already fixed with things like Tribbler and other fully decentralized systems. These sites don't use trackers, don't use website forums or anything. They are Tor, but exclusively built for torrenting. Likely even more secure than Tor since it is proven Tor has been compromised through node saturation, an issue stupidly harder to do on these. Torrent SITES are dead. But the concept isn't. All these retarded media companies are only pushing people deeper and deeper in to encryption, soon making it impossible for them to find. >> [_] Anon 3177969 >># >Torrent SITES are dead. But that's the problem isn't it? Without some sort of aggregation of torrents, there's no way that the average person will find torrents for content they want; at least, there isn't a way that I know of. >> [_] Anon 3177972 >># no i dont think dc++ would work because of the requirements people can put on their "hub". i just spent the best of 10 minutes lurking around finding all the info i can about dc++. i dont like its setup because it is too constricting with the requirements. also do not like it because "hub" is simply another centralization in which i am trying to avoid completely. what i am refering to is a "true" p2p experience. not anything other than a completely decentralized client in which you share with people your connection info if you want them in your "contacts" and then you can at will put a torrent file into the folder to share with all the people on your list. i have found that setting up utorrent with very secure methods and disabling ipv6 completely so that windows doesnt even believe it is installed works perfect to keep all the baddies out. the entire purpose of the client woould be to limit possible baddies - feds and leach only fuckers from accessing the torrent files entirely. this is probably the most secure way since people cant snoop if only trusted people have the torrent file to begin with >> [_] Anon 3177973 >># hell it might even render using peerblock while torrenting (still would need it elsewhere i am sure) obsolete... but i would have to test that once i find something that completely follows my strict guidelines >> [_] Anon 3177975 >># There are clients that find torrents saved entirely P2P. That PD one as well, in Japan. >> [_] Anon 3177976 >># >>tribbler... the first warning they make is a disclaimer about absolutely no protection from government baddies... so it refuses on default to pass my test. also since it failed in its own disclaimer before i would even test it i cant vouch for its "decentralization" requirements of mine. sorry 0/10 would not bang using someone else as a replacement! >> [_] Anon 3177977 >># You do realize the system currently used (what.CD) was NEVER secure in the first place, right? That shit was more open than Tribler is. Private Tracker != secure from tracking. It means you need invites to join it. >> [_] Anon 3177978 Also, take this to the /t/ thread since this is about to die. http://boards.4chan.org/t/thread/744899# lr745008 >> [_] Anon 3177984 >># you do realize i am not the op and never once complained about the what.cd website specifically right? also since you now want my attention on the whole "private tracker" fiasco... all it takes is one numbnut to give an invite to the wrong person and then you are flooded with an undercover fed. private tracking is ojnly as secure as the people who share it. but to include a setup in which you have "true p2p" it would be an invite to your torrent file, never revealing the tracker because the feds shouldnt be getting invites into your contacts list any way (i am under the assumption you are refering to my requirements of a client) as the goblin says "its a secret to everybody" i just never knew he meant torrents when he said it... >> [_] Anon 3177986 >># only* as secure >> [_] Anon 3177993 >># Darknet + Tribler. Tribler only put that message there to shut people up when they still got fucked because the retards were sharing files outside the Tribler network, which rips away every piece of anonymity Tribler has. (Tribler doesn't anonymise outside traffic) >> [_] Anon 3178003 >># correction... no program can maintain anon-status when outside traffic is abusing it. that being said... if retards can break it then i am not "buying it". simply put retards like that are a danger to the torrenting community and should be shunned from existance from us torrenters. also the retards who invited without caution into what.cd should be shunned from existance from us as well. this is why i said its too loose and therefore cannot remain anon friendly. we need to restructure the game and go "true p2p" with everything and start being cautious about who we let in. >> [_] Anon 3178006 >># ... The PEOPLE using the client broke their own anonymity by using Tribler for torrents EXTERNAL to the Tribler network. Tribler has never said it would protect against that, only internal traffic. Tribler doesn't want to be Tor for Torrents. Staying within the confines of Tribler is secure. Also, WW2 was just ending when you yankfucks decided to come in and declare you won. Reminds me of a child that comes in when 2 other kids are playing Cowboys and Indians, with a jet-plane, saying he won. Americas contribution to WW2 was that, basically. Nazi Germany was falling apart. The further out it went, the less people realized it was about securing Europe and more about wiping out people. Their attacks against Russia summoned the full force, which were about to raise hell against them before burgerclaps came in. America has never won a single war it has started or joined. The US military is the largest, the best funded, the best equipped, possibly even the best trained fighting force in the world, if we REALLLY wanted to steamroll someone's shit we could. But we don't, because at best American interests really only require a little disruption, covert action, puppet dictators and banana republics. There's little that can be gained by real war we haven't already managed to gain more easily already, oh don't get me wrong though, protracted incursions are a thing, but war, real war, we don't bother with it. >You destroyed the Middle East and created a worse enemy. MURRICA logic. Except they aren't really a threat to the US at all, what, the US has suffered, maybe 5000 total casualties in it's borders over 50 years of destabilizing and controlling the middle east, while the ME and it's neighbors have suffered 10s of millions? Oh yea, and a few thousand of those deaths allowed us to justify an armed incursion and control the flow of oil for the next decade producing untold billions in economic benefits for the US. That sure is stupid right? Face it mate, we are called the one and only world superpower for a reason, we can own you and there's not a thing you can do about it. You Brits had your chance at an empire and you fucked it up, you could have ruled half the world, but you messed up. I... I wasn't ready for that, anon. >> [_] Anon 2909742 I just read the Wikipedia article about our new admin. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiroyuki_N ishimura >Christopher Poole, the founder of 4chan, formally announced on 21 September 2015 that he has sold the website to Nishimura. So money changed hands? If that is true it's a bad sign. >As of 2008, 2ch generates revenue upwards of ¥100 million per year for Nishimura. That means he had a lot of money to actually pay moot with, so it might be true that money changed hands. This article also claims that the site was sold, though how much it sold for isn't stated: http://bits.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/09/21 /4chan-sells-to-japanese-web-culture-pion eer-2channel/ Does this mean moot finally got some substantial amount of money out of 4chan? And how will Nishimura earn it back...? >># It's a joke not a dick, don't take it so hard. >> [_] Anon 2909745 Says in that article >Mr. Nishimura sold 2Channel in 2009, and is no longer involved in day-to-day operations of the site. Last week, he was announced editor in chief of Variety Japan. If someone can track down how much he got for selling 2Channel we could make an estimate for 4chan, accounting for the fact that 4chan is the 739th most popular site on the Internet our dear moot is probably rich now. At least wealthy enough to not have to work for many years, if he lives like your average Joe.
