It's not the author's fault, not knowing any better. He just wanted to make a hooker game and the engine allows him to Just Make Game without headaches or interruptions. I like some of the character designs, they're charming and out of pocket. I like some of the more angular/polygon-y art, such as the button with the old man's portrait on it, those remind me of Arcanists. Most of the rest of the pixel art is steaming dogshit, however. I also like Stencyl's license. Free to use, free to publish. Had he reached for Unity first, the game would've been less bloated (and Unity is synonymous with bloat), but Unity's licensing is a sword hanging over the developer's head. It's all so tiresome.

Just basic pseudo: stat_increment(statName,howMuch){ statName += howMuch show_alert ( "Learned! \n+" +howmuch+stateName+"!" ) } Could return that function to the statName variable in question, if you don't want to make external references to variables. (objectively better for memory and CPU reasons) I can't understand why they would do each stat separately. Not even for testing. The first thing I did when making a stat-driven game was make a function to handle every stat from the beginning. Both adding and removing stats. (with some stats having a min value, others not)

And it probably would work, since the basis of that code was a JavaScript game, which Actionscript shares many similarities with since they are based on the same spec. I made the pseudo as common as possible to most languages to keep it simple. It'd only need a few minor changes to work with AS syntax. (and JavaScript as well, which I originally wrote said game in) The original code was just that. But equally another form was an object container for a character, then methods for changing the stats. So a Person class You can re-use the same code in the class definition, but make it reference the actual object variables instead. (then just pass the same statName and howMuch to the method handler inside the Person instance.) Object form was much nicer since it was self-contained and easier to see what is happening. (likewise when simple inventory was added, gotta collect all the catgirls)
