/f/ isn't going anywhere! The devs are watching the progress of the Newgrounds-backed flash
emulator Ruffle (https://ruffle.rs). If everything works out, this will eventually let /f/
continue to host flash content, regardless of your browser's flash support.
You can follow the progress of it here: https://ruffle.rs/#compatibility
As you can see, the more common AS3 API will take some time to complete. In the meantime, /f/
will remain untouched.
Ruffle has already been implemented on the archive (https://4chan.org/flash) with some success.
When it's ready, /f/ will be back up to full speed.
Marked for deletion (old).

This is the real news.
Seeing that OP is entirely focused on the shitty ruffle garbage shows that even on this board the
focus is slowely shifting towards pleb newfag phoneposters.
I mean, do you seriously consider yourself a denizen of the /f/lash board when you are not even
able to follow the 3 necessary steps required to continue being able to use flash in browser?
I fear the day when people using actual flash are not welcome anymore on this board...
Do you suck your Mozilla or Google overlords dicks so hard you aren't even willing to use a
standalone browser to have a true flash experience not hampered by needing to download files or
broken actionscript?
>> [_] Anonymous 12/31/20(Thu)13:55:09 No.3453332
Well, as happy as I am of hearing /f/ isn't going to die. The fact most stuff that did make /f/
lively are pretty much already dying as well makes it a bittersweet feeling. Vocaloid and touhou
are far from the glory days, even if /f/ survives, what's in store for it? Reliving the good old

True, Adobe is and always has been a piece of shit. They could have easily made swf opensource if
they wanted, which they didn't, because the entire point is ridding flash of the internet and not
just "moving on".
Still, this is /f/lash, so who are you going to allign with? The company who bought and kept
flash going or the ones trying to rid it off the face of the earth. I'd rather suck the
foremost's coorporate dick and not just let any of those 3 decide that I cannot have flash any
longer.
You can say what you want, flash would not have been a thing if it wasn't for Agaybe.

degradation.
Adobe is to blame for completely squandering the Macromedia Suite. Flash, Director (responsible

From memory:
>Look for mms.cfg in your flash folder or create it (as an empty txt file renamed)
>folder is in windows/system32/macromed/... and on 64bit additionally in windows/syswow64/macr
omed/..., where all the plugin dll files are
>open with editor and add
EnableAllowList=1
AllowListUrlPattern=*.boards.4chan.org:*
and one similar for all other domains you want flash on, also add one for local files
AllowListUrlPattern=file:///*
AllowListUrlPattern=blob:*
>if you're there might as well add
SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
EOLUninstallDisable=1
>save and exit, restart your browser
should work now, but there are some knows bugs like files including a "[" for some reason
also you need to have a browser which still supports plugins
all major browsers decided to NOT do that, so go look for something smaller, also there needs to
be some flashplayer plugin for it obviously, currently only for firefox-esque and chrome-ium type
browsers or microcucks
standalone palemoon is excellent for that, it's just an exe you open which works with the NPAPI
plugin
just copy the flashplayer dll from the adobe folder to some "plugins" folder inside the palemoon
folder
and you're done
tl;dr: have plugin-browser, have plugin installed, have whitelist enabled and domains added

I don't fhink nostalgia is the only reason people held onto flash. Flash is fun and easy to use
and anyone can pick it up, there are a million and a half nostalgic things that were abandoned
with time, something that has value outside of sentiment remains evergreen.
That goes for touhou and vocalood as well, even if the communities which once were are no longer
recognizable to you.

Thank you mods. As it stands, there's no replacement for Flash. People love to tout HTML5/JS, but
the ecosystem is too fragmented and programmer oriented (I say this as a software dev).
Furthermore, you don't end up with single, compiled files that can be easily distributed like
SWFs.
This shit bothers me a lot regarding the death of Flash. Joyless people have been lauding its
death, yet there's no actually-good replacement for it. I don't fucking get it. I'll never
fucking get it.

Pretty much this, I think the learing curve is slightly steeper than other boards and that deters
most people from staying. Then to gatekeep you only need to make people who clearly don't know

In restrictions, you find freedom.
You basically have to make stuff some scratch on /f/, so the average normalfag can't just make
another pepe or wojak and force it here.
That's the big reason /news/ hasn't become /pol/ 2.0, because that board restricts image posting
and requires a creditable news link for the OP, which almost completely cripples the amount of
cancer redditors can spread.

SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0 only stops flash from updating from adobe, which does nothing since they
won't release updates anymore. maybe you save some bandwidth since it won't check for updates.
EOLUninstallDisable=1 only prevents the nag window that appears every now and then where Adobe
asks you if you want to uninstall flash.
the flash plugin can't be stopped from disabling itself and you must edit the config every single
time you want to view flash on another site. don't ask me why Adobe have made it impossible to
just disable the whitelist completely.

"C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil32_32_0_0_465_pepper.exe"

No, it says in their documentation that they deliberately disabled that because it was too broad.
From the Adobe Flash Player 32.0 Administration Guide:
>NOTE: http:*, https:* and *:* are not permitted as they are overly general.
Also, AllowListUrlPattern was previously called "WhiteListUrlPattern" but Adobe renamed it to
"make it more inclusive". Not joking, try using WhiteListUrlPattern and it will work because it's
still in the plugin as a hidden alias.

Use Pale Moon instead. Is updated regularly (which means that there are less vulnerabilities that
can be exploited to fuck with you), is multi-platform (unlike IE which is Windows-only), is light
as fuck compared to other browsers, and most importantly, the devs aren't planning to drop Flash
support anytime soon: https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23191#p177542
The main dev is an autistic furfag with anger problems, but that autism is the reason the browser
hasn't gone downhill or being co-opted like other browsers.

wildcards are only valid for subdomains. Adobe's really pissing on the grave of flash with these
restrictions.
I don't understand why they felt the need to brick the plugin when they knew most browsers will
drop NPAPI support after 2020. There can't be many people these days still using a browser that
doesn't auto-update AND that still visit sites where haxx0rs can upload flashes.

I knew stuff was getting worked on, glad to know progress is being made. Especially glad that
it's open source, cause FUCK proprietary formats for this exact reason among many others.
Here's a big question though. Will Ruffle still have the big unpatchable security issues that
flash player has that is getting it discontinued? Are they necessary for flash files to run
properly or will they be solved by essentially remaking the program from scratch?

First of all, what big unpatchable security issues that flash player has? Second, most of flash's
security issues was always the most far-fetched "what if" nonsense, especially in the last three
years.
That being said, no, there won't be any security issues because everything Ruffle does is done by
the browser. So if anything ever happens it's the browser that have security issues, not Ruffle.

I actually expect swf files to eventually play better with Ruffle because of the built-in
capability of browsers to use the graphics card, while Adobe's flash plugin is stuck with using
the CPU to do rendering. That goes for Adobe's projector exe as well.
The flash plugin was also sandboxed heavily in browsers, slowing it down more than what Ruffle
has to deal with using WebAssembly.

here's a trick for you.
have your music on "start" so it loops forever and seamlessly.
then add a silent audio track as "streaming audio" on the timeline that displays your animation.
this causes flash to frameskip to sync with your silent audio. it "glitches" the silent audio
when the animation repeats but that doesn't matter since it's silent audio (meaning nobody will
hear the "glitch", it's there but silent)
meanwhile your music plays seamlessly, detached from the animation. however it syncs because the
silent audio syncs.
of course it will desync eventually but it should work well enough for several repeats. you could
try increasing the framerate and make your tweens longer, it could make the desync with the
silent audio less impactful every time the visuals repeat.

feels like one of hte last parts of old internet died today. i know the files are still around
and there are ways to play them but just the whole idea that anyone could pick up flash and
fiddle with stuff to create an crappy loop/animation/game to share with other people is pretty
magical. everything now is so polished with guides on how to do it the right way and streamlined
to keep you on the right path. there just isn't that same sense of bumbling exploration anymore.
maybe it's just me but it feels like so much of life is min/max optimized and flash was one of

I did not expect Clicker Heroes to take second place... Looks like someone was addicted to it
between 2014 and 2018. Or was it the flash creator uploading it for the adbux? The flash doesn't
seem to work any more because it waits for the ad to load and it never loads.
Surprised trip didn't make top five.

It's not the flash format that's awful, it's Adobe because they failed to improve the plugin's
capabilities to display swf files in the last 10 years.
I mean the plugin COULD have looked ahead a couple of frames, noticed that it will soon jump to a
different frame and then buffer what's needed at that frame for a seamless experience. But Adobe
never did that improvement, the flash plugin still is surprised that it is supposed to jump to
somewhere else and then there's a glitch in the audio.
Likewise they could have added default rendering with graphics cards on platforms that support it
and for the format itself they could have made improved shadow tools (gradients that follow the
shapes they are inside for example) but Adobe never did any of that.

I feel like Flash's death is symbolic of the decline of online animation/games as a whole.
It feels like there are hardly any prolific animators on the Internet nowadays, and fewer still
that don't do it purely in pursuit of notoriety and Patreonbux. Same thing with games; why spend
effort making a small, free game for fun when you could make a similarly small game and put it on
an app store for a chance at a payday?
It feels like hardly anyone makes art for its own sake on the Internet anymore. The technical
quality of most animations and games has improved, sure, but at what cost?

>Barely any posters
Its pretty good compared to others. It clears itself out every ~20 hours or so and is much more
connected to other boards such as /v/ or /jp/ than boards like /gd/ are.
There's no logical reason to purge this board just because Adobe and google decided the files it
shares shouldn't be supported by them. They know people like this board so why would they kill it
for such a non-reason? Again, mods expressed that they were interested in adjusting /f/ for after
2020 over three months ago to an anon asking them about it. See success.swf.
>muh /l/ and /g/
Moot deleted a shitload of boards, sure, but most were a long fucking time ago. The most recent
one, /q/, is an extreme outlier and was removed a whole six(?) years ago back when moot even ran
this site. Point is, 2020 4chan wouldn't up and kill a random 16-year old legacy board for no
reason. Mecha anime has been declining for a long while, but /m/ isn't going anywhere either.
>""problematic""

Big company bending over to the decisions of other big companies.
This is exactly the reason why people are so pissed over flash getting the axe, most flash
content will not be converted to the "non-flash era" even though they could do it.
Whether it be due to economical infeasibility or lack of time the vast majority of flash content
will not be converted.
I've never played FarmVille but I bet there are people with actual 10 year old farms who don't
understand why their favorite game is taken from them.

Both Disney and Warner bros still use flash/animate and it doesn't seem to be changing any time

take what I say about western stuff with a huge grain of salt, however, I know almost nothing
about it.
I do, however, know that indie uses it a whole lot, as well as several japanese studios and

And I know that swf is used outside of flash, I believe toon boom has swf implementation as well

The video was uploaded in 2019 so I assume this is still relevant.
So Flash Pro (or "Animate" as they call it now) still has a use case and should still be able to
export swf files.
Back in 2011 you could also export from After Effects into a swf file: https://youtu.be/43tN
zKGn6cU
That's a feature they maybe have removed these days? I don't know.
But as far as I know "Animate" is still a product and there's nothing wrong with the swf format
itself.

Sure, it may add to that, but I think it is mostly a flavor thing. A pinch of salt makes sweet

This is why they add salt to caramel too.
I think it has to do something with the chemicals and how the tastes compliment but I am not 100%

your torrent client (i use qBittorrent) usually have a button named "magnet" or "torrent link",
just click that and paste the magnet url there.
sometimes magnets have trackers attached to them (if the links are long), sometimes they don't.
the ones i posted in this thread don't have trackers, then your client should find seeders on its
own with variable success. if it can't find a seed you just get some "open trackers" and add the
trackers to the downloading magnet/torrent
here's a good place to find open trackers:
https://github.com/ngosang/trackerslist
all a magnet is is a hash of a torrent. your client asks around "have you seen a torrent with
this hash" and then someone sends you the torrent file and you start downloading. before your
magnet turns into a torrent you're in a kind of "collecting metadata" phase, it just means you
haven't found the actual torrent file yet.

Yeah I have no idea chemically or physiologically how it works but certain flavors can 'pull out'
other flavors. Like you could cook an Indian meal with a *ton* of spices but it will still taste
a bit bland without salt. Adding just a little salt doesn't make the dish taste salty, it just
brings all the other spices to the forefront.
Likewise cinnamon by itself is kind of bitter, but adding some cinnamon to something already a
bit sweet will really pull out the sweetness.
Actually you've got me curious enough to do a bit of research. Please excuse the reddit link, but

as someone who extensively use flash, I do my animations in adobe animate and I convert the swf

I recall you saying you used a bitmap that looked like a vector trace and not a vector trace on
the backgrounds on one of your works to not overload flash. That connects pretty well to the fact
that gou make the whole thing straight away in flash. Generally the modern way seems to be to
take things cut by cut and assemble them in another program.
I do find it strange however that you convert to mov. Why not mp4 or just avi and then handbreak
into mp4?

Flash is one of the most extensively covered programs on the internet. And /f/ always offers a
helping hand.
Look foe the friday night yakuza thread and check outside the borders of the flash by changing
the window size.
Ask a guy named dedo if you can have a copy of flash, he is a cool dude, he might give you it.
By the way, don't stick too closely tonthe tutorials, some of them do think too stiff, don't get
locked into a mindset, try things around.
For example most people reccomend 30 to 40 smoothing. I actually use 50 most of the time.
You could also get really creative with symbols and fx

Alright. I went and got my facts straightened out to be sure.
Mov is better than mp4, but it is apple exclusive. As far as I know, youtube converts everything
you make into mp4. This may mean your video gets converted twice. Youtube does not take avi, but
avi is peak quality.
I guess mov is perfectly fine then.

This. Like I said earlier in this thread (>>3453570), Flash & the SWF format still have no 1:1
replacement that hits all the fantastic things about them. When you consider that, along with an
extensive history of games, movies, and early Web culture, I think there's a chance that interest
will rise over time, especially as the zeitgeist of "Flash is bad" fades away and people become
more frustrated with modern advertisement tactics and website UX approaches (hijacking scrollbars
and such).

Flash will still expire on 12th of January 2021. Test it yourself by setting the clock forward to
the 13th.
The only way to use Flash past the 12th of January 2021 is to install an older version
(32.0.0.363 or earlier) or patch it with a hex editor:
=============================
To enable installation of older flash versions:
Uninstall flash and delete the registry keys under: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeV
ersions
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions
=============================
To defuse the timebomb in flash 32.0.0.371 - 32.0.0.465:
Use a hex editor to search for the hex string:
00 00 40 46 3E 6F 77 42
And replace it with:
00 00 00 00 00 00 F8 7F
THE SIX FILES YOU NEED TO CHANGE ON WINDOWS ARE IN THE FOLLOWING TWO DIRECTORIES:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash (32-bit flash on 64-bit only)
FILENAMES:
Flash32_32_0_0_###.ocx (ActiveX: IE / IrfanView version)
Flash64_32_0_0_###.ocx (ActiveX: IE / IrfanView version)
NPSWF32_32_0_0_###.dll (NPAPI: Firefox / Palemoon version)
pepflashplayer32_32_0_0_453.dll (PPAPI: Chrome/Chromium/360/Edge version)
OCX files are write-protected so you will need to rename and copy, or take ownership of them as
required.
=============================
You will probably need to use Firefox ESR or a portable Chromium version to avoid the plugin
being blocked by the browsers.

however the final version released by adobe is a buggy mess so i had planned to hex edit the year
of the trigger date from 2021 to 9999 (and release the fixed version for those that want it).
however i haven't yet put in the work to figure out exactly where the date is in the plugin so if
what you're writing is true it would save me some work.
so i'd like to ask where you got your information from?
the only place i can find by searching "00 00 40 46 3E 6F 77 42" is this text file:

Here's to hoping those fixes come soon, it's lame having to download the .swf I want to see but
it's reassuring knowing that the standalone Flash player will be unaffected by the 12th death day.

media player classic is great but it's not well-suited for flash games since some keys are bound
as player shortcuts and will cause the game to not behave like it should (go to next frame on the
timeline for example). double clicking will also toggle fullscreen. with some modifications it
could probably be made much better, maybe perfect if all MPC shortcuts are removed tho i havent
tried. not sure how well text inputs work in flashes played in media player classic. (probably
works if all shortcuts are removed?)

Right. I haven't thought about it.
I have found a quick fix
If you are interested in mpc-hc being exclusively your flash player you can disable global media
keys and go erase the hotkeys one by one. You can always revert it back with two clicks by
selecting all and then reverting selected.

Rock on, /f/!
Well, between the mms.cfg and projector.exe I think there is enough room to continue to use
flash. For the few sites like /f/ where you watch hundreds of flashes use AllowList [previously
known as White(tm)list]. If you stumble across a swf somewhere else and don't want to add it to
the list, just download it and play it locally with the projector.
The biggest problem is the bug with the brackes in filename. Maybe /f/ could be made so it
sanitizes files and filters those characters from the filename? There are a lot of files with []
in the filename as it was used for tags in the past.
Some useful addons to the WhiteList:
>SilentAutoUpdateEnable=0
Maybe Adobe releases a patch later to completely fuck up flash. This prevents any further
installs behind your back.
>EOLUninstallDisable=1
Removes the nag.
AllowListRootMovieOnly=1
Makes it so files loaded by an already approved swf are automatically whitelisted.
>AllowListUrlPattern=file:*
>AllowListUrlPattern=file:///C:/*/*.*
I think this is what made me able to play all local files.
>AllowListUrlPattern=*://*.website.com
Pattern for all websites to be whitelisted.
This is as broad as it gets, you need one domain and top level domain per entry.
>>3453907
The FlashUtil (pepper because you use chrome I guess) is the thing that checks and updates the
plugin, so obviously it would be used to also remove it. Without it you cannot update the plugin,
but that's not necessary anymore it seems.

It's an easy fix, but I can try to explain better. 4chanX (and probably other extensions) have a
feature to embed swfs right on the page. This doesn't work with Ruffle because the swfs are on a
different domain (i.4cdn.org) than the page they're being embedded on (boards.4chan.org). It's a
security feature that the old flash player wasn't subject to because it technically wasn't part
of the browser, being a plugin. But Ruffle uses standard AJAX and runs as a script on the page
itself, so trying to request data from i.4cdn.org will be blocked. The fix, as mentioned in the
mozilla link is to have i.4cdn.org send the header "Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *" or at least
"Access-Control-Allow-Origin: https://boards.4chan.org".

Now that we have generations of flash users in one place it is time to settle it once and for all
Real men use 50 smoothing.
Low smoothing does not add accuracy, it just means your vectors get caught on the pixel grid with
the same results.
50 has the most expressive look in the hands of a real artist, and if you wanted to draw super
accurate equal lines in flash just use the damn pencil tool in a similar width and convert it
into vector fill to finish the job.
That way you won't have the problem of the brush resizing with the canvas since the line tools
are set sizes.

That sounds like a nightmare
if you want to comfortably work with lines you should use the pencil tool and set it to ink.
pencil tool + ink is probably my favorite drawing tool digitally.
You can go one step further if you want to give it more loose expression and change the linestyle
to stipple. I prefer hard lines though
