[_] Anon 3480920 Firefox has started to force-download swf files by default without asking if you want to open them, but you can change that so you can still open in Adobe's projector player directly: Tools > Settings > scroll down to Appications > Search (filter) "swf" > Change Action from "Save File" to "Always ask" Also surf to about:config and Search (filter) on "alwaysopenpanel" and change it to false. Gets rid of the download panel opening every time a download completes. Mozilla keeps making some strange changes to their browser that I wonder who asked for. Marked for deletion (old).
>> [_] Anon 3480924 >># can it play local flashes? I only see a blank screen
>> [_] Anon 3480927 >># I thought they killed NPAPI plugins. Anyway, I have PaleMoon for my flash needs.

>> [_] Anon 3480939 >># >># firefox can't play flash, im talking about getting the "do you want to save or open this file?" dialog that you get when clicking a link that leads to a .swf file. you can choose to "open" a .swf file instead of saving it, then firefox downloads the file to a temporary location and launches it in adobe's offline flash projector (or whatever else program that you have set to open the .swf extension locally on your computer). it just saves some time in skipping 1 or 2 steps that you otherwise have to do manually (save as dialog + actually opening the flash file).
>> [_] Anon 3480940 >># press left Alt on your keyboard to see the top browser bar, then Tools > Settings and scroll down to Applications that JavaScript error in your screenshot seems to be something related to 4chan's Gold Pass that people can buy to skip captcha, it isn't related to what I'm talking about
>> [_] Anon 3480941 >># >Mozilla keeps making some strange changes to their browser that I wonder who asked for. Apple then Google and more recently Microsoft have had "app stores" for a long time 99% of whats there is the type of stuff you would see on a flash site 10 - 20 years ago hence their vendetta
>> [_] Anon 3480946 >># did you know that Adobe made an "app store" for flashes? yep, that existed. they just made it way, waaay too late. i think it was in 2013. made them no money so they shut it down just after a half year or something. i think that's when Adobe finally understood that they had mismanaged flash so much that it was time to abandon it. imagine if they had made that thing in 2008 during the peak of the flash era.
>> [_] Anon 3480955 >># >that they had mismanaged flash >imagine if they had made that thing in 2008 during the peak of the flash era I don't even want to imagine. What a shitty world where mismanaging something means having people share created art for free without pressing every penny out of them for basically no equivalent return. It's not even like their monopoly over the earlier internet hasn't made them tons of cash one way or the other. And it's not even like they put all that much effort into stabilizing the flash format at all. >Hey this shit nobody of us cares about made us tons of money and people love it. But it's not creating as much money these days as we'd like, so let's make it literally unusable by 99% of the population. God, I hate humans.
>> [_] Anon 3480974 >># >I only see a blank screen Click to the URL bar and press enter again
>> [_] Anon 3480976 >># nah doesn't work, it only happens when I drag the swf into the firefox browser it still can play flashes online, v76 that is
>> [_] Anon 3480977 >># thanks, i was wondering why it suddenly started to download swfs
>> [_] Anon 3480978 Thanks, that was easy.
>> [_] Anon 3481028 >># hey, you oughta be thankful, they gatekept the format for us. we're probably the only board anymore that's completely free of tourists by default. those who give a shit about the format can still create with/view it, those who don't fucked off to the newest trend.

>> [_] Anon 3469233 The Google dominance and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race.

>> [_] Anon 3469300 >># to be fair there are 100s of countries in the world that would love nothing better than the ability to listen to what their citizens are posting on forums. i see it more as a way to ensure people are safe from their government compared to someone stealing a password. if you look at it that way it's a good mission to get rid of HTTP but i don't think they should completely remove it, just make sure the users of the browser know they are communicating openly (big warnings, especially when sending post data).
>> [_] Anon 3469312 Brave is sketchy and should be avoided. List of reasons why:
>> https://old.reddit.com/r/24hoursupport/w iki/productstoavoid#wiki_brave Firefox is the only non-chromium browser left. Brave/Yandex/Opera/Edge/Etc are all just reskinned Chrome. Firefox is down to like 5% market share. They had to fire like half of their developers this past year. I feel bad for them. Removing features that no one uses is better than keeping them in and unmaintained/buggy/insecure. Just grow up and use FileZilla. If you don't want to use FireFox or Waterfox (based on an older version of FF), and want something chromium based, the best option is "Ungoogled Chromium". It's basically the Open Source Chromium browser but with anything Google specific/tracking related removed.

>> [_] Anon 3469313 >># Snowden picture.jpg >to be fair there are 100s of countries in the world that would love nothing better than the ability to listen to what their citizens are posting on forums > it more as a way to ensure people are safe from their government This statement is nonsensical. The USA will tell the certificate authorities to hand over their keys or they are vanished. And they do it only they have gag orders preventing them form saying this, same for china. Same for ISPs if you think you are protected form the government by SSL I have to laugh. No you get more control to the government who of course owns the SSL authorities. There literally is no need for SSL. Literally ZERO ! The hypothetical example is someone planting some spying equipment on a rely station only: 1) This equipment costs millions 2) The government is already doing this 3) The Certificate Authorities already gave the government their keys so the government knows all. There is literally no reason for this. The only reason for SSL are fagots who use public hot spots and the hot spot is compromised and will steal your passwords. Out side of this ZERO. SSL give the government additional ways to shut down a website for example revoke its SSL certificate and the users get a big RED warning sign that its not secure. Did you all miss the fact that we live in a post Snowden world ?! HELLO ! This is not 2005 ! >what their citizens are posting on forums Facebook already forwards all you post and all the data they have on you to the gov.
>> [_] Anon 3469314 >># >Firefox is the only non-chromium browser left. Brave/Yandex/Opera/Edge/Etc are all just reskinned Chrome This. Its important to remember that there are no other code bases for browsers everyone simply takes chrome and modes it since they can like with linux where everyone can make their own linux dystro.
>> [_] Anon 3469315 >># brave browser is undeniably shit, it's just reskinned chrome with meme crypto and brave's own spyware added also eich is the creator of javascript, and if you consider the design of javascript "good" then i offer my condolences
>> [_] Anon 3469316 >># >Just grow up and use FileZilla. You're missing the point. It's about people that don't even know they are using FTP when downloading old programs. Telling someone that they should "grow up" when they complain about features being removed is childish btw.
>> [_] Anon 3469317 >># >This statement is nonsensical. thinking that that statement is nonsensical proves that the rest of your post is nonsensical so thanks for putting it at the top. now keep enjoying your safe suburbian lifestyle in a country with comparatively little corruption to the majority of the world. >The USA will tell the certificate authorities to hand over their keys or they are vanished. fukken wat, look up how a HTTPS handshake happens
>> [_] Anon 3469318 >># >Firefox is the only non-chromium browser left. How can you forget about Pale Moon on /f/?!?
>> [_] ta-kun 3469319 >># Could you say a few words about pale moon? I tried to look into it and saw almost no information. Even /g/ barely talks about it.
>> [_] Anon 3469322 >># It forked from Firefox in 2015 or something. I think it's the only browser to still support the Flash plugin. I've been using it almost exclusively since the start of this year. Biggest drawback is the single-process memory usage accumulation.
>> [_] ta-kun 3469324 >># Does it include sources in its inspection window? One of my biggest pet peeves about firefox is that I can't rip images off of sites and have to switch browser when I want to do that.
>> [_] Anon 3469328 >># I'm not sure what that means, but I can save random images just fine by right-clicking and selecting save image as.
>> [_] ta-kun 3469332 >># When you inspect the page on a browser it should let you access assets from the site itself, things you are not supposed to download; things you cannot download by right clicking. https://files.catbox.moe/62ddlr.png This is not available on firefox
>> [_] Anon 3469334 >># >># Recommend https://basilisk-browser.org/ instead. It's by the same people (person?) behind Pale Moon but it uses a little more modern GUI version of Firefox. Flash works with Basilisk as well. >># Can you give me an example of a page with stuff you can't download in Firefox? I've not run into this limitation myself. FF does have an inspector as is shown in the image linked in >>#
>> [_] ta-kun 3469335 >># https://web.archive.org/web/201803201401 27/http://animatorexpo.com/mememe/ Here is the website in the screenshot. You cannot download the images here Not only that, it is pretty common for website to not allow you to left click on their assets and just download them (it's treated as part of the site, not embedded images) If you inspect on firefox you cannot find sources and cannot access these images.
>> [_] Anon 3469338 >># In Firefox: Hold down shift to bypass the script that disables the right-click menu. You can now right-click images and either "Save Image As" directly or "Open Image in New Tab" and then press Ctrl+S to save it. The image at the absolute top of the page (the one that slides down when the page loads) was a little harder to save, then I selected "Inspect" from the right-click menu and looked at the css (style) information. The 'a 'element inside (header>h1) was set to have a background URL, I right-clicked it > copy url > paste in browser's address bar > ctrl+s to save it. The blue bicycle image can also be found in this way. An alternative is to press Ctrl+I (or Alt>Tools>Page Info) and go to the Media tab, for a list of images on the page. Select an image there and press the Save As button. Another more tricky alternative is to clear your browser's cache (Ctrl+Shift+Delete) and reload the page. After it is fully loaded you navigate to about:cache and look at the "Storage disk location" path, open the folder in your computer's file system. Use filesizes to figure out which file is which, copy and rename them. You can also "List Cache Entries" in about:cache for a lot more information as well as a direct download link (you can't save directly from the cache unfortunately even though it displays a HEX view of the cached file, maybe there's an add-on for that though, I also wish it displayed the hash that the saved file is using for easier lookup).
>> [_] ta-kun 3469339 >># Shift right click seems to work for a lot of things, not everything. Sorry, I don't understand ccs, I'll try method 2 when I can pay more attention to it later. I'm gonna try the storage disk location trick later as well. It's still kind of annoying that it's not there, and I'm still annoyed that firefox sometimes glitches and won't let me access the taskbar. Good to know at least I don't have to open another browser just to get some tough images.
>> [_] Anon 3469343 >># You don't need to understand css. Just select "Inspect" and then scroll down the middle section (of the three vertical inspection sections) until you see something that looks like an image URL and hover it to see if it's the right image.
>> [_] ta-kun 3469346 >># Can you post an image of that? I'm not seeing anything that looks like an image url. It's supposed to be under console, right?
>> [_] Anon 3469347 >># No, the Inspector tab (middle section). Can look something like this: background: url("/web/20180311011235im_/http://anima torexpo.com/img/pc_header_logo.png") no-repeat 0 0; Sometimes (or usually) there will be no mention of "http" but in this case it does in the middle of the URL since it's hosted by waybackmachine. Make sure the correct thing is selected in the left section of the Inspector tab (avoid deselecting whatever you picked to Inspect). Some sites will hide their image containers behind other containers, then you can select nodes in the left Inspector section and press delete to remove them from the website. Keep deleting until your image disappears, then you Ctrl+Z and you'll know that the node selected contains the image that you're looking for. If it feels difficult you can start by looking in the Page Info's Media tab instead (Ctrl+I), though if the page has a ton of images it can take a while to locate what you are looking for in that list.
>> [_] ta-kun 3469349 >># Got it. Thank you!

If you search for "flash" or "shockwave" you only get fucking browser skins. WHAT THE FUCK MOZILLA, why the fucking fuck is flash gone in fucking 2019??? This should be no problem until January 2021, Mozilla themselves said so. There's no God damn reason to remove flash, forcing people to click to play a flash file works just fine. I've not heard about ANY security exploit in flash for like 4 years, it's clearly enough to sandbox it properly and require click-to-play.
>> [_] Anon 3389618 >># you can always download the standalone flash player from adobe. i've been using that as more and more websites fuck up access to flash games.

I thought Firefox would pick up on the fact that windows 10 comes with flash pre-installed (there's an entry in the control panel) but I guess it is either only for Internet Explorer or it is incompatible with Firefox 64-bit (says 32-bit in the control panel).

>> [_] Anon 3389632 >># still not the same. im not thinking from a "i want to be able to play flash" perspective, im thinking from a "i want people will still make new flashes" perspective. normies wont jump through hoops to playback swf files using offline projectors and if 90% of the audience don't want to go through the trouble required to view flashes the artists won't make new swfs and people won't bother sharing links to swf files. i don't want to just be able to enjoy flash, i want flash to stay alive. browsers not playing flash isn't simply "a move to offline projectors". it basically puts flash on the same tier as Commodore 64, you can download C64 programs and run them through a dedicated program but nobody except a very dedicated few will bother with it. and so the world forgets about flash. C64 is understandable but killing of flash is in no way necessary.
