It's the Princess of Moonbrooke from Dragon Quest II for the NES. The purple hair was the original

May be the sauce, but somehow it's not loading up on my Macromedia Flash Player 7. All of the
executables merely start up the program but fail to load. No error message or anything, just a
blank window. No experience with this program (offline) so I'm rather taken aback.

>> Anonymous 4apr2011(mo)00:56 No.973 C P17R13

>>866
Flash Player 7 is ancient, too old to run the thing probably. run it in your web browser instead.
you can just open any webpage and drag and drop the flash file into the web browser

>> Anonymous 6apr2011(we)05:53 No.982 G P18R14

>>973
Dragging and dropping will prompt any of the 4 most used browsers to "download" the file, as all
the files are executables (.exe).
Tried the crude, though sometimes efficient, idea of renaming them to .swf and see if the browsers
would accept it but only IE wouldn't again prompt a download; but as well, IE isn't able to open it
- there's a prompt for a blocked ActiveX runtime or another, I allow it, but stays the same.

Just learned that Flash Player 7 is old indeed, it's "About" info puts its release at 2003 and
apparently Macromedia was bought by its rival Adobe back in 2005 - go figure, I'd always presumed
Macromedia was only a product model of Adobe's; specifically, the Flash Players.
But seeming as the player is only a plugin now, I see no more recent version to download that'll
work as program on its own - and replace the old Macro Player 7 that way.

I'm rather I'm the only stumped by this, I must be one missing one hell of a truth here.

>> Anonymous 6apr2011(we)06:24 No.983 C P19R15

>>982
the executables you speak of are probably embedded swf files ("projectors" i think it is called).
these are basically a stand-alone flash player with the swf file baked into one, the idea of it is
that by using "projectors" even computers that dont have the flash plugin installed can play the
swf file. there are simple ways of extracting the swf files within, though i have never done it
myself

>I see no more recent version to download that'll work as program on its own
i have "Adobe Flash Player 10.1 r52" (stand-alone flash player), do you want me to upload it to
/res/ so you can get a new flash player?

another thing you can do is install Media Player Classic and open the swf files in there, it uses
the flash plugin plus it will provide you with a slider (seekbar) so you can jump to any position
on the flash's main time line. if you use MPC you should change fullscreen from double-click to
middle-mouse-button though so that you can double click in the flash (also flash games arent good
in MPC since the controls may change the current position in the seekbar). you can get the latest
MPC by installing the latest K-Lite codec pack.

personally i use both media player classic and adobe's official stand-alone flash player

>> Anonymous 6apr2011(we)06:41 No.985 G P20R16

>>983
Oh? So there IS an actual stand alone Flash Player program, as opposed to a mere browser flash
player plugin?
Well, I thought such a thing was indeed what I needed, but what you explained now makes sense. That
these executables bring their own flash player to play the .swf within. Making it all the stranger
that the player it includes can't play the flash.
But anyhow, unless I do extract the .swf within the .exe files, neither that stand alone Flash
Player nor Media Player Classic are useful, right? When I tried simply renaming the .exe to .swf,
the default program to run them was MDC indeed and, logically, it failed to open them.

I suppose then, if I CAN get the .swf's inside, I'll be able to simply drag-drop them to a browser
and have no need of a stand alone player, right?
So perhaps a means to do this is more in order.

I'm still perplexed though... didn't you too download the file linked at >>426 ?
The way you put it, it's as if you didn't know the download contains these executables. That's odd
'cause your earlier comments suggest you did want to download that.

>> Anonymous 6apr2011(we)07:49 No.986 C P21R17

>>985
if you can get to the swf files inside you should be able to drag-and-drop them, yes

and no i didn't actually get the file in >>426... i was really just interested in the source, and
checking the best ones out if they were uploaded, hehe... too many times ive checked swf files from
games and most of them are just dupes of each other with some minor difference, much better if
someone would just upload the best five instead

if one of the exe files you say are in the linked rar file in fact contained the flash that OP
posted, it means that OP somehow extracted the swf file from the exe file. if we are lucky maybe he
will tell us how he did it?

>> Anonymous 6apr2011(we)07:51 No.987 C P22

>Making it all the stranger that the player it includes can't play the flash.
that is strange, however maybe they rely on some file that aren't included in the rar. most of
these multi-flash games have one master flash that read all the other flashes, maybe the master
flash (projector of that flash) is missing in the release?

>> Anonymous 7apr2011(th)06:55 No.989 G P23R18

>>987
Could be the OP was able to extract. If so, it'd be cool of him to share the how, yes.
But he might have already gotten this in .swf format, since it was Anon A who linked the sauce.

And actually, it does have a master file. The download comes with a folder and one subfolder.
Inside the main folder is the main .exe and a couple of .txt - one links to a dead blog and the
other must've been in japanese characters so notepad translated it to the good ol' random symbols
gibberish, for some reason, odd 'cause I do have jap characters in the OS. So they're both useless
in terms of info. Then inside the subfolder are the individual scenes, all in .exe files too.

>> Anonymous 16apr2011(sa)23:35 No.1054 OP P24R19

OP here, sorry, I fell into a coma or some shit. I'm redownloading the .rar to decompress the
.exe's into .swf files. I'm also going to try my hand at adding the sound back in, the .exe for
each scene relies on a .swf and a separate audio file, so yeah. Chrome say's about five minutes,
plus a few to parse it, then I'll post and mess around with the audio.

Well, I'm glad, though it's a bit sour from the irony.

And so, for extracting there's SWF Vampire and the OP's link, now corrected:

stumped

Using the same small program as the OP's, that exe2swf, I was able to extract the whole game from
the main .exe, a single .swf of 35.6MiB.
Uploaded it here, but it was unaccepted, saying it had a video (?) and was over the maximum size of
30MiB, even if under the upload form it says:
+ Max size: 30 MiB/60 MiB.

Can't extract the individual .swf's from each of the .exe's, either, dunno how OP seemingly did it
and uploaded half of the scenes.

>>1158
"Max size: 30 MiB/60 MiB." means that swf files are max allowed to be 30 MiB if they contain a FLV
video, otherwise they can be as big as 60 MiB. That's why the file you tried to upload was refused,
it was five MiB too large. Sorry about that, I imagine uploading that must have taken a bit of time.

I put that 30/60 rule there in order to prevent uploading of random long porn videos in super HD
quality; 30 MiB should still be enough to deliver pretty decent quality for most small clips. But
at the same time I didn't want to prevent uploading of (very) rare swf files that were huge for
reasons other than video.

If you hover the mouse above "30 MiB" there's a small explanation of the meaning: "SWF with
embedded video". But maybe that 30/60 thing wasn't such a good idea, just confusing... I could
perhaps set it just to 40 MiB for all swf files regardless of if they have video or not... But then
those rare huge swf files can't be uploaded. I suppose setting the limit to 75 MiB would be fine if
only one huge video of great interest was uploaded every once in a while, but it would kind-of be
bad if someone "abused" this and uploaded entire games consisting of several very big swf files.
These will just take up space and not be of interest for most people.

As it is now the 30 MiB video limit works as a little "quality-assurance" since if someone has to
down-encode a video to below 30 MiB it must be one of the better ones. It'd be bad if a bunch of
50+ MiB videos were spammed that really just consist of various angles of the same scene. I'd
imagine someone waiting a long while for it to load and then be disappointed, closing it at once.
That would just waste bandwidth.

Actually the 30 MiB video limit should be lowered a bit further, perhaps to 20 MiB to ensure "more
value per MiB". But I like people to be able to deliver quality in their clips if they want to so
30 is a pretty good limit, as long as not someone upload a 1 second clip with extreme resolution
resulting in a 29 MiB video...

But I ramble. Anyway, what you could do if you really want to share your 35 MiB file is to RAR it
and upload it on /res/. Or upload it to a service like megaupload and post the link here (just
remember the site rules 1-9 and 1-17).

>>1157
>why does HTML not fly on these boards
HTML is off because if it wasn't it would be abused beyond reason. =) People could do this to
destroy threads, create popups and anything else one can do on a homepage.

Ah yes, lol, didn't remember that by then.

>>1161
>HTML is off because if it wasn't it would be abused beyond reason. =) People could do this to

That makes sense. But, actually, I'm a bit of a rookie and was thinking that by HTML they were
referring to mere linked URLs.

>Sorry about that, I imagine uploading that must have taken a bit of time.
Oh, no problem at all, it didn't take that long and it's not like I had to idly wait for it to
finish. Why, I'm uploading a 4gig video to youtube as I type this - with a dozen other tabs open in
the same browser. As long as it doesn't crash or get too slow, I'm good.

I appreciate how thoughtful you seem to be about this. The 2 different maximum file sizes aren't a
bad idea, though I'm wondering how much probability there is that people would upload such videos
or games in parts - as for games in parts, I think uploading to a number of file hosting services,
even for free, would be much more practical. There are already files uploaded that violate the
rules and need taking down, so I wonder how many more there really would be otherwise. But I've
little experience about this, so I'll defer to your wisdom on it.

Hell, if the current system/values work, I'm good. Just, I didn't notice that tooltip (the one over
30MiB) and indeed it could be easily missed, but including that little bit of info in the FAQ would
suffice, I believe.
I just remembered we can reply to threads with attachments and immediately had the idea of
uploading every part in a single thread if not in a single file, but it seems that unlike in /res/
where we can attach other .rar's, here only images are allowed and not other .swf's, so that's a no
go.
I'd rather not opt for that /res/ as I want to make it more readily available and convenient. Plus,
I find it untidy to keep torrents around, I always try to clear 'em out ASAP, heh... however, I'm
no leecher, I do seed my downloads back a fair bit. Most of them.
I think I'll simply whip up an easy megaupload link, then. I think it'd be too messy to upload a
dozen separate parts. Bothersome for those not interested in any of it, too.

>But at the same time I didn't want to prevent uploading of (very) rare swf files that were huge
for reasons other than video.
Oh? Such as what, I wonder?
